Down's and Up's

Yesterday was just one of those days. Mid-day a headache came on and lasted all day into the late evening, our daughter knew what buttons to push and pushed them, I had too much to do in too little time, and I was up one pound by the end of the day. The most humbling part of the day was when I heard this,"Mommy, will you please not be impatient with me?" "Mommy, you didn't use a soft answer." Ugh!

Of course, a three-year-old should not be correcting any adult, but she was right. The "funny" or "ironic" thing is that I should have paid closer attention to what I was reading yesterday morning. "He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly..." (Prov. 14:17a), "He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly." (Prov. 14:29). And guess what the first verse in my Proverbs reading is today? "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."

In other words, I was flat down on my face quite a bit yesterday. "For a just man falleth seven times..." (Prov. 24:16a) Honestly, I probably "fell" more than seven times yesterday. Thankfully the verse doesn't end there. How discouraging that would be! Today is a new day and I plan to focus on the rest of the verse - "and riseth up again." Things are looking up!
